Hebrew School:

Temple Emanu-El Hebrew School seeks to instill in each student a feeling of connection to the Jewish people, pride in our heritage, and love of Torah.

We try to accomplish these goals by:

  1. Teaching your child basic reading knowledge of Hebrew, emphasizing key words and phrases found in the prayer book;
  2. Teaching your child to be comfortable with and to participate in services by being familiar with the Friday night and Shabbat morning services, as well as selections from the Holiday services;
  3. Teaching your child key sections of the Torah on which our outlook and traditions are based, emphasizing the moral and ethical lessons that are derived from them;
  4. Teaching Jewish observances, including holiday customs and the life cycle.

Adult Education:

In addition to our fine youth educational programs, Temple Emanu-El conducts a varied adult education program which includes guest lectures, classes, and special presentations.  We conduct classes in Hebrew,  basic Judaism, and Jewish history using the curriculum of the National Jewish Outreach Center. We are proud of our Shabbbat  morning after Kiddush programs as well.  On the first Shabbat of the month, there is a text class taught by Rabbi Sussman in which a section of Talmud or other traditional text is studied.  The second Shabbat of the month is time for our Yiddish round table; this is a perfect opportunity for those who want to brush up on their Yiddish.  Remember, if you don't use it, you'll lose it.  The fourth Shabbat of the month is reserved for the book club, led by Larry and Linda Black, in which current books are reviewed and discussed.  These programs take place after our weekly Kiddush luncheon at approxamately 12:30 on Shabbat morining.
